Identity
Shame messages swirl around in my head,
Telling me I'm the thing that's wrong,
Telling me I'll never belong.
And for a moment, I believe them.
But then, I remember who I am.
I am good person, I say.
You messed up on that today.
I am kind, I am strong.
That person thinks that you did wrong.
And here, shame takes away
Every identity I can say.
But I have one more.
The identity at my very core.
I am a soul, an identity no one can take.
My inherent worth will never brake.
No matter what other people do to me,
No matter what I do,
No one can steal it from me,
I retain my value.
